Andrey Ermak — Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Kaliningrad Region
The illegal storage of ammunition and weapons was hidden under a heavy concrete slab. The task was complicated by the fact that a doghouse was installed on top, and a dog was sitting on a chain, the press service of the Russian Guard told. After examining the premises, a riot police officer and a Bazuka went out to the house territory, the shepherd stopped abruptly, turned around, began to sniff and crouched down, thereby indicating that she had smelled something suspicious.
One of the burials was in the foundation of the house. The second one is buried in a plot at a depth of several meters and covered with parts from an old glass greenhouse. At the same time, the cartridges in this cache were packed in a plastic bag. But the sharp nose of the service dog did not disappoint.
The Rosgvardia press service added that one command was enough for Bazooka: “you can't, look for it,” and the dog, ignoring the four-legged guard, continued working. As explained in the press service, this meant for the shepherd that she could not react to another dog, she had to sniff and search.
Bazuka is a mine-hunting dog, for five years she served faithfully in the OMON "Grad" of the Rosgvardiya Directorate for the Kaliningrad region. And more recently, in November 2024, she turned nine years old, this is the age limit for service with dogs. Therefore, Bazuka said goodbye to the service, they conducted the favorite, as it should be, with honors - to the sound of an orchestra, presenting a commemorative medal "30 years of OMON Grad", writes Novy Kaliningrad
Bazuka worked on the profile “detection of explosives and explosive devices” under the keen guidance of Senior Police Warrant Officer Alexei, a member of the engineering and technical department of the OMON “Grad” Rosgvardiya.
Together, they repeatedly took part in the inspection of sports and concert venues before mass events, went to reports of suspicious objects in public places. And twice a year, in May and September, Bazooka's sensitive nose explored schoolyards and assembly halls before the Last Bell holidays and Knowledge Day.
During her five years of service, Bazuka helped the Russian Guards in the survey of various objects and territories over a thousand times. Of these, more than a hundred applications of the service dog were effective, that is, the German Shepherd discovered explosive finds, including mines, artillery shells, grenades, fuses, cartridges of various calibers, gunpowder, the press service of the Russian Guard writes. At the beginning of her service, Bazuka found four caches at once with several dozen kilograms of weapons and cartridges from the Great Patriotic War.
In addition to excellent achievements in the service, Bazooka is a prize—winner of competitions of various levels in her profile. In June 2024, at the regional championship of cynologists of law enforcement agencies, Alexey and Bazuka won the bronze medal in the nomination "The best in detecting explosives".
Now the Bazuka is on a well-deserved vacation. Bazi, as the Bazooka is affectionately called in the Russian Guard, will live with her faithful comrade in the service, Alexey. And wait for him from the service, hoping that the owner will return with her favorite treat – ice cream.
