Belarusian rescuers responded to calls to help animals more than a thousand times in 2025

The nomination "Responsible for those ...": Employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Belarus have saved hundreds of lives of pets and wild animals.

In the Gomel region, rescuers helped a moose that had fallen through the ice to get ashore, in the Ivanovo region, emergency workers took a sheep out of a well, in the Rogachevsky region they helped a stork that got tangled in ropes. And this is how most of the messages in the news feed of the Belta news agency begin, when it comes to injured animals and the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Belarus.

There were so many such stories in 2025 that it's easy to lose count. Rescuers had to deal with moose several times. On a winter night, I even had to cut the ice on the lake with a chainsaw so that sochaty could get out of the ice trap and swim to shore. And in the summer, they came to the aid of a moose calf in the Grodno region, where the poor guy fell into a pit on a dairy farm.

Belarusian rescuers rescued everyone from trouble. And swans, and hawks, and storks. And once they helped ducklings who got stuck in a hydraulic engineering structure of one of the parks. It was easy to swim inside, but the birds were able to get back out only with the help of emergency workers. The babies were placed in a box and released in a safe place.

They even encountered badgers in the Ministry of Emergency Situations.  On a June day, concerned citizens contacted the Ministry of Emergency Situations and reported that several animals had fallen into the well and needed help. Rescuers took striped forest creatures out of a two-meter-deep trap and released them into their natural habitat.

"The department's policy is aimed at ensuring that not a single call received on the 112 line is ignored, including when help is needed by "our younger brothers." This year alone, Belarusian rescuers have traveled to help animals more than 1080 times," the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Belarus said.

It is noteworthy that the provision of assistance to animals is not assigned to the Ministry of Emergency Situations at the legislative level. However, the staff of this department managed to build a whole system of assistance to animals, thanks to which every representative of the animal world, regardless of its type or size, can count on help.

"As a rule, we are talking about wild animals that have found themselves in an unusual habitat for them or whose rescue is not possible without special equipment and equipment. It is important to note that in each case, the Ministry of Emergency Situations workers take all necessary measures not to harm the animal and return it to its natural habitat," the press service continues.

As the rescuers themselves say, the widespread media and social media coverage of real animal rescue cases has cemented their agency's image as a "rescue corporation", whose employees possess not only high professional qualities, but also a kind heart.
